How long does a professionally cleaned sofa take to dry?

Drying time depends on the cleaning method, the fabric and the room's airflow — most upholstery cleaning is dry to the touch within a few hours, but fully dry through the padding can take longer.

What to do

  • Ventilate the room — open a window or use a fan to keep air moving over the fabric, which speeds up drying significantly.
  • Keep the sofa out of direct use until it's dry to the touch, and avoid sitting on cushions that still feel damp underneath.
  • Ask us for the expected drying window before the appointment — it varies by cleaning method (low-moisture vs. hot water extraction) and fabric type.

What to avoid

  • Avoid covering the sofa with plastic sheeting while it dries — this traps moisture instead of letting it evaporate and can encourage mould or a musty smell.
  • Avoid direct heat sources like a heater placed close to the fabric — unavoidable fast drying is not worth the risk of shrinking or damaging some fabrics.
  • Avoid re-wetting an already-damp area with a second cleaning attempt before the first has fully dried — it just extends the total drying time.

When to call a professional

If a cushion still feels damp or smells musty more than 24 to 48 hours after cleaning, that usually means moisture reached the padding — worth asking us to come back and check it rather than leaving it to dry on its own.
